The St. Meinrad cemetery serves as a memorial of Brothers who have dedicated their lives to the Benedictine tradition of work and prayer.

This weekend I served as a guest workshop leader for a spirituality retreat at St. Meinrad, a Benedictine Monastery and School of Theology in the Catholic Church. In preparation for the workshop, I took some time early in the morning to get a feel for the grounds that have served many in their prayer lives and spiritual disciplines. The monks, it turns out, had already been up and completed their Vigils & Lauds, or the morning prayer service. Unfortunately I had to leave early due to the football game, or I would have really enjoyed attending mass and getting to learn about the daily routine.

Fall In Fernandina

Historic Nassau County Courthouse Clock Tower | Downtown Fernandina Beach, FL

A week-long trip home supplied a much needed break from seminary classes, papers, etc., as Jennifer and I traded the crisp autumn temperatures of Louisville for some the humidity and bright sun of Fernandina Beach, FL. After piping for Reformation Sunday at First Presbyterian Church, Jen and I enjoyed a few restful days by walking on the beach, sailing, and hanging out with friends. Jennifer has returned to Louisville with a new life skill - she learned to play chess. I have a video idea in mind that should be completed in the near future.

This trip also marked a huge addition to my photo equipment. I recently sold my 24-70mm lens in order to piece together a lighting set! While I'm still in the beginning stages of experimenting with it, I'm hoping it will add a significant element to future photos. [Frame 5 is an early attempt. Lesson learned: don't show up a the water's edge as the ambient light is at its preferred level. Show up early and don't waste time setting up in leu of adding an important element to a photo: the background.]
